Though initially skeptical, five minutes in Modelo Lounge, Hove was all it took to win me over.
With its friendly staff, quirky decor (think grannyfied tasseled lampshade, retro cabinets, strange paintings), and rather good drinks list I was sold.
The new opening is part of The Loungers, an informal group of neighborhood cafe-bars that have sprung from almost nothing (read a few Bristol sites) to 20. A rather large investment from a customer has made the expansion possible. But at the heart of it, three boys from Bristol have set out to create locals locals with charm. Or so legend goes.
Modelo has a community notice board, local staff and a good does of everything your average Hove-actually wants: free wifi, newspapers, eccentric decor and a menu that pleases daddy and baby alike.
In all seriousness, the burgers looked good and the tapas smelled great. Will be heading down to try out the grub soon.
